Caryn Young, Principal of The Lighting Source, Inc. has achieved the designation of Certified Professional Manufacturers Representative (CPMR), after attending the program held at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.  To complete the program, Caryn Young successfully completed the final of three annual coursework sessions of executive education.  The program is offered by the Manufacturers Representatives Educational Research Foundation (MRERF) and is administered through the Institute for Professional Advancement.  Caryn Young is among the first American Lighting Association Manufacturers Representatives Member firms to achieve this designation.

The program involves multi-level course work taught by a team of instructors from both the business and academic communities. Each year's course sessions concludes with an examination that students must pass to proceed to the next level of course work.  The curriculum incorporates the "base body of knowledge" required to successfully operate a manufacturers representatives firm.   Individual classes address a wide range of topics, including sales, management, financial, communication, marketing, productivity, and strategic planning.

The program is open to qualified manufacturers representatives who are members of the multi-industry, national trade associations that sponsor MRERF.  The program begins twice a year, once at Arizona State University in Tempe and once at Indiana University in Bloomington.  Further information on the program may be obtained through the  Institute for Professional Advancement  at P.O. Box 247, Geneva, IL  60134, by phone (630) 208-1466, or at  www.mrerf.org.

In March 1998, Caryn Young successfully passed the examination for the American Lighting Associations Residential Lighting Training Course, and has earned the designation as a LIGHTING SPECIALIST.

Caryn Young currently serves on the American Lighting Association's Rep Steering Committee, the Board of Governors Officers Nominating Committee, and is a member of the Education Foundation Board of Trustees.
